Myths and legends of joining the PTA

Have you ever felt like you want to get involved, but worried you're signing up for a lot of time and work that you don't have? Or maybe you need to work for the School to be part?  Lets explore some of the myths surrounding the PTA...

"I work, so I don't have the time needed to be part of the PTA."

We completely understand that everyone has a lot on their plate! That's the beauty of our PTA - our volunteers, just like you, come from diverse backgrounds with different schedules and commitments.

There are numerous ways to contribute and help raise funds, each tailored to fit your unique availability and interests. Whether it's effortlessly using fundraising apps during your online shopping, selling cakes and books for 30 minutes after school, assisting with event setup, or even reaching out to local businesses for donations, there's something that aligns perfectly with your schedule and preferences.

At our PTA, we recognise that all our members have jobs, busy lives, and family commitments. Yet, by each doing a little something, we collectively make a big difference. Helping out with the PTA can be tailored to suit you, your work commitments, your hobbies, and your family. We welcome your involvement in whatever capacity works best for you. Together, we can achieve great things for our school community.

All current members of the PTA have jobs and busy lives, commitments and families but we all do a little something to make a big difference!

"You have to attend every event and meeting to be a member!"

Our PTA typically gathers at least once a term, often in a local pub for a relaxed and informal setting. As a member or volunteer, you're always on your own time, offering you the flexibility to support the PTA as your schedule allows.

We understand that life gets busy, and if you can't make it to a meeting, that's perfectly fine. Similarly, if you're only able to support a few events, that's okay too. And of course, if you're eager to be involved in everything, that's welcomed as well.

Every contribution, no matter how big or small, is deeply appreciated. There are no guilt trips here - just gratitude for whatever you're able to give.

"I have small children and/or I can't help during School hours."

No problem at all! Our volunteer opportunities are designed to accommodate various schedules, extending beyond typical school hours. The majority of our activities take place after school or on weekends, allowing for greater flexibility. Even if you're unavailable during setup, you might be able to help during the event itself or maybe when packing away afterward - it is all immensely valuable.

We understand the importance of flexibility, and there are diverse ways and times you can contribute that suit your availability. We appreciate any support you're able to offer, and we welcome your participation whenever it fits into your schedule.

"It's just for Mums."

Absolutely not!  The success of PTA events relies heavily on the support of all volunteers, and we warmly welcome anyone who would like to contribute. Our team currently includes not only parents but also a grandparent and a dad, highlighting the diverse range of individuals who enrich our community.

Each member brings their unique skills and experiences to the table, making our collective efforts even more impactful. Whether you're a seasoned volunteer or someone new to the team, your involvement is greatly appreciated and valued. Together, we can continue to make a meaningful difference in our school community.

"To be in the PTA, you have to work for the School or be invited by a formal PTA member."

The PTA stands for Parent-Teacher Association and warmly welcomes not only parents but also teachers and school staff to become valued members of our community. If you would like to get involved as a volunteer or join the Committee, you can contact us to express you interest at any time.

As an independent charity, our elected PTA trustees and members play a crucial role in decision-making, particularly regarding fund allocation.

Maintaining a close partnership with the school is integral to our mission and we collaborate closely with them to ensure that our initiatives align effectively with the school's needs and goals. By fostering this partnership, we strive to create a supportive and enriching environment for our school community as a whole.

"You have to be on the PTA Committee to be able to help."

If your child is enrolled in the school, you're already considered a part of our vibrant PTA community. Our official committee comprises roles such as Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer, alongside PTA trustees and members who actively participate in voting on fund allocations. However, we deeply value all the incredible individuals who generously offer their time and support as volunteers. You don't need to hold a specific title to join in the excitement.

Whether you possess remarkable baking skills, can spare an hour to assist at a school disco, or are willing to lend a hand in assembling our Christmas hampers for the raffle, your contribution is immensely appreciated. Simply reach out to us when you notice an upcoming event, and let us know how you'd like to support and when. Your willingness to be involved helps to enrich our community and ensures the success of our endeavors.

"I don't want people thinking I am the person always asking for donation or money!"

As a charity, we do rely heavily on the generous donations and support from our PTA community, however it's not always about monetary donations. People can show their support in their support in other ways too and any financial donations made, we always strive to keep low and affordable at all of our events.

Our PTA's success is made possible by the generous donations and support from parents and the community, no matter how big or small it could be donating clothes, uniform or books they longer need, baking a cake or just attending or sharing details of some of our events - every little contribution helps!

We are committed to giving back to our families too, offering free ice lollies on the last day and providing soft play activities at a discounted rates!

How do I join?

We hope you are interested! The PTA is always looking for new members. Each year we lose members when their children move onto secondary school. We are grateful for any help you can offer, as much or as little time as you can spare, and we are always looking for new fundraising ideas.

Please contact us or come along to our AGM, which takes place in October.
